Hello 2010

I know today is the 10th day of this new year 2010, but I've been reading everyone's resolutions & recaps of 2009 and I feel like I want to too. I seriously can't believe how fast time has passed by. When I think back, I feel as if I haven't succeeded in anything in life & 2 years have passed by. But I've been thinking & I feel like although I may not be in school, furthering my education, I'm doing what I love for God.

Learning
This past year I've learned to become a better person (still working on that), I'm learning to LET GO of the good things & the bad. I'm learning to love myself more than I ever did. I'm learning to balance things in my life (God, Family,Work,etc.) There was so much that happened this year & I just cant believe how fast we're already moving into the new year.

Life-Changing Experiences
This year I had a lot of life-changing experiences. We have a woman's group at church & our coordinator for this past year planned a wonderful woman's sleepover/getaway for us. We ate, we cried, we laughed, went on a hike, dressed up, shared our feelings, and found sisters. What more could I have asked for. We learned to become better wives & how to love our husbands more than we ever did. We learned to understand men, which I'm pretty sure every girl is curious about. And so much more.

A couple weeks after our woman's getaway, we also attended a Woman of Faith Conference that was taking place in Portland. Not too far from where we all live, but we decided to seize the weekend & make it a sleep over. That weekend was just incredible. There were so many great woman there speaking to us. They shared their most inspiring stories to us & it just touched me so much. I especially loved Sheila Walsh's story & testimony. I've been going through a lot in life, I know I'm not alone, there are tons of people who are going through probably the same thing or even worse. But I just really needed that push & encouragement. Sheila Walsh just really opened my eyes to see what was beyond what I could handle. She showed me how I could lighten my shoulders from burdens that I was holding on to. To just let go of even grudges & pain I didn't even know I had. She was just a HUGE inspiration. Check out the video below if you feel the same way I do.

During the Woman of Faith Conference, I felt something. I felt a change in me. Something, or someone tugging at my heart. I then knew that God had sent these wonderful ladies to open our hearts & not just that but also our eyes to see the world much more than our own backyard. We were all introduced to World Vision & I just knew I had to do something. I never felt in my life that I was doing any goodness. And this was my chance. So I am now proud to say that I am sponsoring a little girl in Bolivia named Aracely. We have just begun this new adventure & I'm so excited.

Then not too long after the Woman of Faith Conference, I was asked to chaperon our churches youth group as they go to The Revolve Tour. What that is, is a Conference made for Youth girls. It's made to reach out to our girls of today & what they are going through & what they will be going through. They talk about how to deal with boys & that boys are different from girls. It was an awesome bonding time with the girls. I, along with my sister-in-law & cousin went along as chaperon's. I hosted the girls at my house & we would stay up both nights & discuss what we've learned. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to grow a closer relationship with these girls. Again, we laughed & cried & poured our hearts out. It was so life changing to see how the conference impacted their lives. We were so excited to find out that a girl that we had invited to go with us had accepted Jesus Christ & we were over filled with joy. We decided to make plans & make sure this year we will fund raise & work hard so that when the next Revolve Tour takes place again we can sponsor more girls to go with us to hear God's Word & we also want to donate money to World Vision "a Christian humanitarian charity organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice." I was just so amazed at how inspired each and everyone of these girls were. I can't wait till next year.

Family
Like I said earlier, I was going through a lot in 2009. So much pain & stress. There were so many times that I would find myself lost & alone. But after Woman of Faith, I learned to Let Go of all that & reunited with my family. After over a year of no contact with my parents & most of my family, We finally started talking again & seeing each other again. I can't say we are doing swell. But I'm willing to slowly work it out. And I'm happy about that. We were able to spend Thanksgiving & Christmas together which is always wonderful. Not just that but God also gave me opportunities to reunite with family that I haven't seen in years. During the summer I was able to attend our HKM Annual Church Conference in Sacramento, CA and I was able to meet up with a whole bunch of people I haven't seen in years. That itself was just a blessing.

Love
My loving husband and I have gone through a lot this year. I know not just us, everyone does. But we had our ups & downs. There were times that God truly tested us. But I'm glad that we surpassed them with His help. I wouldn't be the person that I am today without him. My husband and I are working together each day to become a better spouse to each other. He has his moments and I have mine. But I think there's been so many life changing experiences for me, that he has changed along the way too. Thanks hun, if you are reading this, I love you very much & I can't wait till we hit our 5 year mark. I also can't wait to spend my eternity with you. Love you so much & thanks for dealing with me. You are my everything. And I am excited to go through another adventure with you this new year.

God
I can't say enough, do enough, or type enough, how thankful I am to have Him in my life. I thank God for everything I have. I know I am not a perfect person. I have my failures and my sins. But yet he never fails me. He accepts me & loves me no matter what. Through those times of pain & sorrow & loneliness, He loved me the most. He lifted me up & took my burdens away. Everyday He is teaching me to love Him even more. Thank you Lord, You are my Abba Father and You are my all in all. Thank You for creating me & guiding me in my every way. You are truly amazing to me. You've closed some doors but every time You do, You open another one. You truly show me Your ways. Thank You Lord. You give me the strength & the courage to do things I've never thought I would. You've showed me how to get passed my fears, & struggles & pray that You continue to. Thank You Lord.

Wow, I sure did have a really busy weekend. I've been cooking, singing, doing makeup. All that fun stuff. But most of all I've been spending time with the people I love. I think thats what matters most. Not just at this time of the year. But every time of the year. This weekend we had our Christmas service & so my sisters & I joined together & prepared a couple of songs to share. I will have the clips of us singing up soon! Other than that please enjoy this look. Lately I've been rushing to church & so I've gotten into this routine of doing my makeup in the car under pressure. For some reason I work better that way. Tell me, are you this way too?

So lately I've been going to the library a lot just to check out books for my students and I decided I can look up other stuff too. I decided to type in the search bar MAKEUP. And who knew there would d be so much resources. So I checked out Sephoras Ultimate Guide to Beauty, Skin, & Hair. I found a really pretty bronze look that just inspired me. So here's what I came up with. I hope you enjoy. There's also another look that I'm hoping to do for Christmas or sub for new years. But I'm excited for the holidays. I have a lot going on this month but I'm trying to make time for my blog. So let me know if you'd like a tutorial or not. I've been kind of lazy & plus it doesn't help that Windows Movie Maker wont input my camera video formats for some reason. So I cant edit them at all. What am I going to do? Does anyone know what I could possibly do? Maybe convert it somehow but I'm not sure. Please let me know if you have it figured out. Thanks.

Anyways, I've had a pretty long weekend. We have a Christmas program this upcoming weekend so I've been shopping for stuff to make wings for my angels & wrapping empty boxes for presents & also creating a huge star! So I'm going to have to bust out my creativeness. But this is all I can say as of right now. Gotta catch up on some rest and get back to work tomorrow. So have a great week all! Lately I've been caught up in family parties & get-together's so OI haven't had much time to do much. For some reason I always find excuses to tell you guys. Yay! I got off work early today & I was starting to feel all tired. I've been so out of it. I haven't been catching up on any new fashion trends or makeup trends. At work I can only wear our work polos with our logo printed on, so I haven't been dressing up at all. Okay, so I have been really MIA!!!! Missed blogging, & missed reading everyones blog! I've been so busy with work, church, cleaning our house! I just honestly couldn't find the time to blog my heart out. But I promise I will make it up to you all. I also got sick too. Not feeling so well. Sunday night I got home from church & I just had a HUGE headache, I was feeling very nauseous & my tummy was churning. But I finally found some time to come & say that I've missed you all & I'm sorry. I haven't even unpacked out of my suitcase yet & I've been back for a week now. I have to do more lesson planning. I have to clean my room! I Got a Haircut!

So I finally got my sister-in-law to cut my hair after debating if I should save it & not touch it. I really like my cut cause it frames my face & gives me volume. Especially cause my hair is so thin & fine. My husband got home & he was like " Wow it makes you look skinnier!" hahaha I was like yeah see thats why I wanted to get it cut! But at first he didn't want me to. But he's fine with it. It's not like I'm shaving my head or something.. hahaha.... let me know what you think.

.....into my Past, Present, & Future.

(Warning: This Post is Photo heavy)

It was the night of October 15th, 1989, when I was brought into this world. My parents named me Dora Pangchia Thao. I was their first child. I was born in Orange County, CA. To start off, I am Hmong. And I know there aren't alot of people out there that are familiar with what that is. It's a long story, so if you really want to know i suggest you Google it just like everyone else. I know every once in a while I do. Just because I get so confused from all the stories. But anyways, I am the first born child of Tong Kou Thao & Mailor Lor. I have 4 younger sisters & 2 baby brothers. I've taken care of them all my life til now. I've lived some of my life in California and in North Carolina. I grew up going to church every Sunday. So I am a BIG believer in Christ. About 3 years ago I've finally accepted Him as my Savior & was baptized.

Growing up in California, I lived around most of my family. My most fondest memories are of my loving grandmother. She mostly took care of me. I went every where with her and she of course the role of a grandmother, bought me everything I wanted. That only lasted for a short time though. My grandmother died about 3-4 years ago due to an unsolved crime. Till this day we still have no clue if it was suiccide or murder. I miss her so. Here is a picture of her as a loving memory.

My Sister Tiffany & I

Over the years, my family & I have moved a lot causing me to attend lots of different schools. This is a BIG reason why I never got active in school. Never joined clubs, sports, school dances. I was your average "loner" with other kids that I just called friends for a while. I never "belonged" anywhere until we moved back to Fresno, California after living in North Carolina for 6 years. I started as a 7th Grader at Kings Canyon Middle School (KCMS). And I met tons of other hmong kids too! It was easier for me to get along with these kids because we had things in common. I became so attached to my friends even though I never really got to "hang out" or get to know them very well.

It wasn't til freshman year in highschool that I had a best friend relationship. We went to KCMS together but we were never as close as she was with her BFF's. When we found out that we were the only two from the group that went to Theodore Roosevelt High School, we decided to stay together & support eachother in every way. So that was when I truly felt like I was on top of the world. It didn't matter if school or life was pain, I had a friend I could turn to.

But it wasn't long after we started our wonderful friendship together, that my parents decided to move up to Oregon. I was going to have to leave her behind. Just when I thought everything was perfect, my Dad decides to get a job in Oregon. Kabao, thats her name, was very sad when I delivered the news. She didn't want me to leave, I didn't blame her. But I've truly missed lots of memories that we had in my Middle School-early High School Years.

Kabao & I still keep in touch with eachother. We call/text/message eachother once in a while to keep each other updated on our lives. But on to what is happening TODAY! As of right now, I reside in Oregon with my loving husband. And I am happily married. I married him when I was 15 years old. When we first talked to eachother on the phone it was like "love at first sight." We just knew that we were meant to be. He was the most Romantic person ever. I don't know where or what I would be with out him in my life.

So here we are after 9 months of just dating, we decide to elope & get married. And I have to warn you, for some reason after we got married, we just somehow got carried away & gained so much weight. Everyone says "thats what happens when you get married, you're just too happy!" I dont know if thats what really happened, but I do know one thing, I love him so much & I love him now more than ever. He's stuck by my side through everything. And if it wasn't for his love & support, I wouldn't be who I am today! Love you HUNNY!! We've talked & talked and we've been planning our future together. He has plans to go into a Fire Academy to become a Firefighter, and as for me, I am planning to register for Beauty School sometime this year to become a cosmetologist!

3.) I'm a dork, I'm gullible, I forget & lose things and I fall for everything.
(NOTE: Thats why I also got the nickname Dory)
4.) I like to go outside every time after it rains & take a deep breath in.
5.) VERY PERSONAL: I was regular with my periods up until I got married, and ever since I've been very irregular. I get so scared sometimes cause I'll go a year without one. But just recently, like last month, I went jogging for a week & it came in for a full week. And this month I've started again! So I'm excited. hahaha

Late Memorial Weekend Post

I'm so sorry for posting this so late. But I still wanted to share with you all my weekend. The hub & I woke up Saturday morning with no plans. Then he decided to go to the beach. So we got up, got ready & left for Seaside. It was beautiful at home, nice & sunny. But once we got to the mountains & forests, it was overcast. We were both bummed, but we weren't going to let that spoil our weekend. Did some shopping at the tiny outlet that they had (thats where I got the Claire's stuff) Then after that we drove up to Astoria. There was a rave of the Amazing Astoria Column that we just had to go see. So we got up there, but couldn't go inside to climb the hundreds-thousands flight of stairs to see what beautiful scenery it contains from the topdue to interior construction, but it was beautiful just to look at. After camera whoring infront of the column, we headed back to Seaside & did some more shopping in the downtown area (where all the tourist attractions are)

Sunday we woke up went to church & thought there wasn't going to be enough time for us to do anything, but we managed to get some PHO & go hiking/walking with some of our friends & family. So funny how we are always in Portland, but we've never managed to go to this park (Mt. Tabor) Very beautiful I'd say.

Monday the whole family planned to go out to McIver State Park, so we headed out there kinda late. Did some bbqing, eating, volleyballing, walking, & just your average everyday family talking. I didn't get any pictures, but I just wanted to tell you I had a blast!!!!

I honestly love some of Claire's Eyeshadows, they are actually pretty pigmented. Well enough to work with anyway's. My very first palette was from Claire's and I LOVED it. I'll have a more actual detailed post up about my love of Claire's cosmetics but for now here's that swatches.I also needed a black eyeliner since I used up my NYC one, so Claire's had a buy one get one half off so yup! grabbed it. I LOVE earrings! And then as you see here I also got the 5 piece Eco-Tools Brushes! I love the kabuki brush.. so soft.. will do a review on it ASAP.... ummm oh and just for fun I got this Mood Lipstick from a novelty store. I have the pink one tooo so I'll let you know how that goes... I just wanted it for the fun of it.... Anyways, more details on my weekend later.

I'm not sure it its obvious yet... but I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE zebra. It doesn't where we go, I think I've trained my husband to seek anything & everything zebra-printed for me. It's actually pretty funny. When we go shopping, its like all he see's is zebra printed this & that! I love him. Anyways, on with my rambling of my love of zebra prints, here is a tutorial of a very talented artist that I enjoy learning from. I just couldn't help but share with everyone else. Great job Eily!!

Fashion: Cropped Boots

While the way these ladies wear their cropped boots might not seem revolutionary, the subtle style tweak makes all the difference. Don't forget that up until recently, a casual boots-and-jeans look always required a pair of knee-high equestrian or vintage boots and some methodical denim tucking (one never wants to add bulk to ones calves). However, as witnessed on some of the savviest trendsetters, the cropped boot is fast replacing its taller counterpart.

As for why this look is dominating, well, we're not exactly sure. Maybe everyone loves cropped boots because they offer a weather-appropriate way to transition into a spring wardrobe? Or perhaps it's a time issue: who has the patience to zip, button or lace a boot all the way up, when you can just pull on a boot that is roomy enough to easily slip your skinnies into? Whatever the reason, we are quite taken with the look, and can't wait to showcase our favorite cropped boots, as seen on some of the most stylish tastemakers from coast to coast.

Eighties Eyes

Though this is definitely statement makeup, there is a way to wear these eighties eyes off the runway. If you're keen on trying the dramatic look, use a slightly matte dark gray shadow, per Mischa Barton and Alice Dellal. Barton, seen here at the G-Star Raw show in February, is a huge proponent of this trend. She usually concentrates all the shadow on her lids, extending just beyond the outer corners to a slight Cleopatra-like point, and leaves her brow bones bare. Alice Dellal showed off a similar, slightly more polished version of this look at a Milan Fashion Week party. We love the combination of soft dove gray shadow on the brow and inner corners, plus shaded charcoal shadow on the lid. The way the darker shadow tapers to a dramatic point is not only lovely, it's also perfect for a fun night out.

Okay, So the hubby & I didnt have much planned for today, so we decided to go out to the outlets. I ran across the CCO (The Cosmetics Company Store) & purchased my first...(it's sad to say) MAC product ever! I'm excited though cause I'm slowly collecting.. anyways, MAC is already expensive as is and the CCO had stuff discounted, but may I just say, for a person like me, whew! Make up there is still pretty pricey. Discounted, but pricey still. Especially for a person that has a tight budget. So yes, I got my MSF in Light Medium/ Natural for $18.75. Anyways, I also went into the CLAIRES store & purchased some head bands since they we're having a 1o items for $10 & anything you purchase under &10 after would be $1. So I grabbed these two Splatter Shadow Pots. Everything was a dollar! Loved it! I'm a big BARGAIN SHOPPER!! I cannot buy anything too pricey, I just have a conscious of telling me its way too much. So I'm always in the clearance section of every store I go into! AHHHH! hahaha anyways, have a good one!

He suprisingly had his sister drop off flowers for me at work, then later that evening (after work & all), he took me to Red Lobster, always wanted to eat there, so glad we went cause the food was YUMM!! Then we went to buy toothpaste from Target, and I decided to pick up some goodies for myself, and then we came home. There wasn't much to it, but the time we spent together was awesome. I love my hubby!

1. Experiment with Fragrance: Grab a marked-down fragrance leftover from the holidays and get a whiff of something you’ve been meaning to test-drive.

2. Skip Shampoo: Minerals in tap water and detergents in shampoo can cause your winter-stressed scalp to itch and flake.

Before bed, rub a dry shampoo into your roots to absorb the excess oil.

3. Forget Foundation: Heavier pigments and thick consistency of foundation can make it settle into dry areas on your skin and give your complexion a patchy look that brings attention to imperfections. Use a tinted moisturizer instead.

4. Leave Nails Naked: Brittle nails are more common in women who used nail polish remover at least twice a month. Skip the polish in the winter, and moisturize your hands and nails every day.

5. Check Your Conditioner: Protein could be what’s making your hair dry and static-y. Check the label on your favorite conditioner; if the P-word is high on the ingredient list, alternate between it and a conditioner that contains lubricants.

I looked inside, and there were these cute little Beauty Rush Sparkling Eye Shadows. I remembered that my sister had bought one of these in GOLD, and I fell in love with it.
